TELEVATORS
Last night was dinner and drinks with my brothas; Weishen, Joel and Kenny, and Gwen + Janesh which made for first impressions and a-better-friday-night memories. The topics covered ranged from the obscene to the deeply personal to just plain rubbish as all conversations between friends go. What surprised me was that the boys were inclined to open up in front of people they had just met. Which gets me onto my topic of today, the ease of being a male and the relative difficulty of being a female when it comes to making new same-sex friends.
Male relationships are built on a myriad of things that pervade most male souls like soccer, sex escapades (without each other hopefully), games, TV, gadgets, porn etc. S t u f f you know. Girls talk about fashion and... boys. Yup, that's about it. There isnt a consensus on what all girls like. Unlike guys. An Ah Beng who just met a Lawyer could get on perfectly well on the subject of soccer. Guys make friends easier because they have a large range of similar interests.
Guys take the punches without feeling the pain. They rib each other and have fun. Girls take things waaaay to serious. They are touchy feely, if you get my drift. When females meet other females for the first time its Prozac nation. It's always "Is she more attractive than I am?", "That top makes her arms look fat. Hehehehe. Wait, how do mine look?". But to our credit it really isn't our fault. It's biological. Our clocks all ticktick away and tell us we're going to become old batty cat-keeping women and thus we compete. It's a competition of the eggs. I'm not saying that all males can click. Just that most are able to.
